The Massive #1

What’s it about: It’s one of those “the end of the world is just the beginning” type of story. A post-apocalypse sci-fi about the ship, The Kapital, searching for its sister ship, The Massive. The Kapital is captained by Callum Israel, a man who has dedicated his life to environmental causes and now finds himself lost after the end of the world.While contemplating what role he has left to play, Israel and his crew will face off against post-apoc usual suspects (pirates, rebels, murderers, and all sorts of nastiness).
American Vampire: Lord of Nightmares #1

Publisher: DC/Vertigo
Estimated Price: $2.99
What’s it about: A companion piece to the on-going hit comic, American Vampire. It follows Agent Felicia Book trying to raise her young son, Gus. Soon, the vampire hunting organization, The Vassals of the Morning Star, need her help tracking a new powerful foe. Vertigo is touting this as a great jumping on point, so I suggest you start checking out a comic franchise that I eagerly await every month.

Batman And Robin #10

What’s it about: Someone has called a meeting of the Robins, and despite not being the norm, I have always been a pro-Robin Batfan. This book is back on track after its Night of Owl side track turning the attention back on Damian’s betrayal of Batman with Ducard. Tim takes it poorly, and Jason will probably reluctant to even show up. The Robins haven’t really interacted since the reboot, and I would be lying if I wasn’t interested in seeing if anything has changed.
Before Watchmen Silk Spectre #1 (of 4)

What’s it about: It is one of the many Watchmen prequels, this one obviously focusing on the Silk Spectre. If you are looking in getting the whole series it looks like it’ll end up being pretty pricey. If any of them will prove to be truly worth it, I think it’ll be written by Darwyn Cook. He has already mastered the straight-forward pulpy superhero (see: The New Frontier), he is in a perfect position to reflect and dismantle the genre. Not to mention, in true Watchmen fashion, will feature a pirate back-up story.
Battle Scars TPB

What’s it about: This is the trade paperback that collects all 6-issues of Battle Scars. Marvel sells the miniseries as the first look at the post-Fear Itself Marvel universe (whatever the hell that means). Anyway, Army Ranger Marcus Johnson is targeted by a number of mercs while Cap and SHIELD try to intervene. What makes him so special? I don’t want to give it away if you’ve been able to evade the spoilers this far, but two fan-favorite characters get introduced to the Marvel catalog.
Spider-Men #1 (of 5)

Publisher: Marvel Comics
Estimated Price: $3.99
What’s it about: This will be the super hyped up story of 616 version of Peter Parker (the one we all know and love) teaming up with the brand new multi-ethnic Ultimate Spiderman, Miles Morales, who despite the controversy in the decision has done well critically. I don’t know much else about the story other than Marvel claiming “history will be made.”

Uncanny X-Force #26

What’s it about: Uncanny X-Force is easily the most consistent of the X-books except for maybe X-Factor, but its still close. Wolverine and his pro-active team of killers (Alternate reality Nightcrawler and Deadpool) are about to face off against 3 supersoldiers frankensteined from the pieces of Omega Red. Meanwhile, Psylocke, who recently quit the team, goes to the Jean Grey Institute for Higher Learning to see Angel, who recently got a lobotomy.
